Trache Cap For White Valve

The inspiration for the design came to me while I was choking in the shower. I wanted a simple solution to water going in my trache. So, I designed the cap with Tinkercad. It is a cap that fits over a speaking valve(Passy Muir valve). It works like an umbrella for the trache. Under the umbrella are 4 open spaces so the wearer can easily breathe while wearing it. 

 

I have printed a few with my home 3D printer and have been using it while in the shower.  Me and my sister have both been using it over a year now and it has worked just as I hoped! No more choking! I also had Shapeways print one in stainless steel. It is beautiful but a little too heavy to be comfortable while sitting up. The plastic version is barely noticeable because it's so light weight.

 

Personally, I really like the look of it and would wear it all the time. Shapeways has a variety of colors available. I hope it is helpful to others!
