Product Description
To get the most out of a log the sawyer must roll it on the carriage, probably several times before the whole thing is turned into lumber. This log turner is a winch with chain and hook which is mounted to the ceiling beams over the carriage. It is straight from the deLoach catalogue and features the compressed paper friction drive they were so fond of. It consists of two drive cones fixed to a shaft that can be slid back and forth engaging one or the other of the drive cones to opposite sides of a bevelled wheel. This wheel in turn drives the winch drum either forward or back depending which of the drive cones is turning it.
The model will need two or three inches of fine chain that you provide, as well as a piece of fine brass or steel wire to go from the actuating lever to a handle that hangs from the ceiling above the sawyer. The hook is moulded to the frame of the model and can be freed with a hobby knife
