Here is my simple solution, arm fillers!
They work in both robot and truck mode and he can still transform with them on, no partsforming needed!
Please note that shapeways only prints the colour on the top layer of their prints so if buying in red to go with your Optimus, bear in mind that sanding will remove the colour.
