HO Log Haul-up with Back Haul

PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONThis is another version of the Log Haul-up winch offered elsewhere in this store. I have added a second drum for a haul back line. This line is of a smaller diameter than the main line. It runs down the jackladder, around a block under water at the bottom it, and back up to the end of the main line. As the main line is winched in the haul back is pulled out and as the haul back is winched in the main line is pulled back out.

This model was developed from the DeLoach log haul-up illustrated in a DeLoach Company Catalog that dates to about 1908 and shows DeLoach's extensive line of sawmill machinery. It should be situated at the end of the log deck opposite the inclined ramp, or jackladder, up which logs are pulled from the pond and into the mill. The operator controls it with two levers. One pulls on the brake beam and presses a brake shoe against the main line drive wheel. The another pushes a compressed paper friction drive against the main line drive wheel when the operator pulls back, or against the smaller haul back drive wheel when the operator pushes forward. Because its drive wheel is smaller the haul back drum is faster than the main line drum.

This model is as close to scale as Shapeways technology allows and can only be printed in frosted detail plastic. Detail is finer than most cast metal or plastic models and you will need a jeweller's loupe to see it all. The model is non operating.
