A potential shortage of Le Rhône engines led to a variant of the
Nieuport 17 using the 130hp Clerget engine and fully faired fuselage sides. It was never widely used by the French (one notable exception being a plane flown by Nungesser) but it did fully equip one RNAS squadron and partially equip another. By the time the 17bis entered service in late 1916, there were better planes available to both French and British aviators, so it was not very popular.
This version of the Nieuport 17bis is armed with a single synchronized Vickers machine gun. I also offer a
version with both Vickers and Lewis.
This model comes in both 1:144 and 1:285 (6mm/1:288) scales.
The smaller scale model features two aeroplanes, each with a detachable, translucent propeller disk rather than propeller blades. They are joined by disposable links to keep the price down, since single-part models are more affordable. You can break the links with nail clippers, wire cutters, or similar.
