Product Description

This is a 1:29 G scale smoke jack (chimney for the oil burning stove) as found on many cabooses. The prototype for this was found on the cabooses of Canadian National and Grand Trunk. This model includes a ring located part way up the chimney, to which 3 guy wires were attached to help stabilize it on the prototype. When the railroads switched their older cabooses from coal burning stoves to oil burning stoves they had to also change to this style of smoke jack. This style was used on all new cabooses starting around 1955-1960. Many railroads used a chimney very similar to this, but without the guy wires and attaching ring; that can be found in our "Style 04" type smoke jack. Style 04 is more appropriate for Canadian Pacific and most railroads across Canada and the United States. An important feature of this model is that it is hollow, allowing use of a smoke generator inside the body of the caboose. For enhanced realism, you could reduce the visible wall thickness of the upper chimney walls by running a sharp bit up to through the existing holes. If you are careful and use a drill size of 3/16", the remaining wall would be .007" (roughly a scale 1/4"). This model has a 1/4" diameter hollow stem which is long enough to extend below the roof line.
