Product Description
The "John Henry" Adjustable Safety Razor is designed for DIY enthusiasts looking for the best possible shave for their particular skin and beard type.  The adjustability of the head means that the aggressiveness of the razor can be dialed up or down depending on your own personal requirements.

Once assembled, gently tighten the adjustment knob at the bottom of the handle until you feel resistance.  This is the mildest configuration of the razor head.  Rotate the adjustment knob a quarter-twist open for a more aggressive shave, or a half-twist to shave several days of beard growth.

This razor will appeal to DIY enthustiasts who do not mind finding parts and assembling their own products.  In addition to the 3D-printed parts, you will require a set of parts from your local hardware store or industrial supply center:
  • 1 M5x16 mm flat head machine screw (metric only, imperial are not compatible)
  • 2 M5 hex nuts
  • 3 M5 washers
  • 1 M5x40mm hex-head screw
  • 1 compression spring, outer diameter < 9mm, inner diameter > 6mm, wire diameter ~0.7mm recommended, length 25mm or 1 inch

Assembly instructions are given in this video:

Shapeways only provides 3D printing, so hardware cannot be included in the package.  If there is sufficient demand, I might put stainless steel hardware assembly kits onto Ebay.  However, keep in mind that the accumulated shipping costs will probably make a trip to your local hardware store worthwhile.

When you receive your 3D print from Shapeways, the pieces of the razor will be held together with interlocking pins.  You must remove these to assemble and use the razor.

On May 14 2017, the design was modified to strengthen the razor when overtightened.  On June 9 2017, The interlocking pin was relocated at the request of Shapeways printing staff.
