Product Description
The sail here is of the style produced by the Portsmouth shipyard. From what I can gather, no two GUPPY upgrades were exactly alike. And thus, no two sails were exactly alike. In this case I've attempted to represent the Fleet Snorkel USS Torsk, SS-423. The Fleet Snorkels didn't have the GUPPY hull modifications but did have the GUPPY sail and snorkel, as well as accoutrements like the BQR-2 bow sonar. So the panel lines are slightly different on the sail to represent the Torsk, and the mast and periscope compliment are as Torsk too.
This is to be used with the AFV Club 1943 Gato 1/350 kit #SE73511. While a Gato (the Torsk was a Tench class), it's about the closest you can get out of the box. It will require filling some of the limber holes. Consider also picking myGUPPY and Fleet Snorkel sonar accoutrements set.
For trimming the periscopes, masts, and sonar doodads from their sprue I'd recommend using a small kerf'd razor saw. The temptation to use a sprue trimmer could lead to localized shattering where the sprue detaches from the part. Depending on how close that is to the actual part, this could lead to part damage. Something to keep in mind.
