Configurable for surveillance, crew transportation and potential offensive space missions the Dyna-Soar (Dynamic Soaring) would have been an impressive leap forward in our space capabilities of the day. Due to confusion about its role in the USAF arsenal, it was sadly canceled at the brink of the prototype stage. The research begun during its development eventually made its way to the development of the Space Shuttle.
