Schwingen, also know as Swiss wrestling, is a style of folk wrestling native to Switzerland. Wrestlers wear Schwingerhosen ("wrestling breeches") with belts that are used for taking holds.
There are several main throws, some of them very similar to judo techniques. The pendant shows the throw named "Kurz", it is one of the most famous throws.
Schwingen is considered a "national sport" of Switzerland. As with other types of folk wrestling, the roots of Schwingen in Switzerland cannot be determined exactly. There are records of wrestling in Switzerland back to the 13th century.
