DIY* Apple HomePod Stand Whether your looking for a suitable place to put your HomePod, want to improve sound, or look for a stand or mount to make your HomePod stand out, this might be a great option for you.
Fun to make
Top adapter for Ø 22mm tubing (HomePod > tube);
Bottom adapter for Ø 22mm tubing (tube > foot);
4x Cable guides for Ø 22mm tubing;
3x Feet caps for Ø 22mm tubing;
Shopping list (items required to complete the stand):
2x tube Ø 22 mm x 1000 mm (copper, aluminum, carbon...) If your going to build 2 stands according to my recommended dimensions you only need one extra tube (3x tube Ø 22 mm x 1000 mm);
1x Cable tie 100mm x 2.5mm (roughly)
Thin (0.2mm) double sided tape (for the cable guides);
Total estimated price: Depending on the chosen print material, finish and type of tubes the total price will be somewhere between €69,- and €140,- euro ($75,- and $150,- dollar).
Tools you need:
Tube cutter or hacksaw (to cut Ø 22mm tube)
Fine sandpaper and file (to smooth the tube edges)
Scissors (to cut peaces of double sided tape)
Maybe some denatured alcohol (methylated/rectified spirit) to remove printed markings from the tubing
Building instructions: Download the assembly manual for a impression and building instructions
Unbox and clean the parts (if necessary);
Separate the parts that are connected with small sprues and cut away any excess sprues;
If you ordered parts in a color removing any excess sprues may leave white marks. Try to cover it up with a color marker in (roughly) the same color;
Cut the tubes (straight!) in the recommended / desired lengths. I recommend a length of 900mm for the main tube and for the second tube I recommend peaces with a (minimal) length of 165mm per peace (if your going to make 2 stands with the recommended dimensions you should be able to get 6 feet peaces (of 165mm each) out of one tube);
Make sure you remove any sharp edges, smooth the tube endings (be careful not to damage the tubes with scratches), remove any printed markings with alcohol and clean the tubes;
Assemble the tubes, adapters and feet caps according to the assembly manual;
Add the cable tie around the center axis of the top adapter and pull it tight so that the top adapter remains firmly attached to the tube;
Attach 3 or 4 cable guides (what you prefer) evenly to the main tube with double sided tape;
Find a great place to put your HomePod stand, place your HomePod on it and click the power cable in the cable guides.
Height: recommend 900mm (max ~ 1 meter) or up to you to decide;
Width (feet radius): recommend 35cm (minimal) or up to you to decide;
Weight: ~877gram (based on my prototype with copper tubes and the recommended dimensions);
Colors: see available material colors;
Add more weight in the foot: If you want to add more weight in the foot you can for example fill the feet with concrete (check assembly manual for details).
Copper old look: If you want to give the coper tubes a darker more old school with stains look, just grab the tubes on a few different places with your hands and repeat this a few times. The more you do this the more darker and stains it will get. The greasiness and acidity of your hands will make the copper darker and gives it stains.
