Product Description
Alone, each of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, would be among the largest ski resorts in North America, but after fully merging in 2003, the combination is indisputably the largest. Its 8000 skiable acres is larger than Vail (5500 acres) or Big Sky/Moonlight Basin (6000 acres), both of which are available here at TinyMtn. In addition, Whistler-Blackcomb's true skiable vertical is the second-highest in North America (1595m/5234'), only slightly less than Revelstoke, also in BC, Canada. But these mountains are also great for hiking and climbing, so TinyMtn now offers you a summer version!

In 2008, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola opened and connected the two resorts high above Fitzsimmons Creek. The resulting gondola lift is not only the highest above ground (436m/1430'), but has the longest unsupported span (3.03km/1.88mi) of any lift in the world. Riding it requires either ignorance or a high degree of trust in the Austrian, Swiss, and Canadian engineers who built it, because for most of the journey, you are simply unable to see the ends of the cables that are supporting you.

This model of Whistler Blackcomb contains the entire resort, plus some dramatic ridges above and behind the summits. To the Northwest, you'll find all of Whistler and Whistler Creek, plus Alta Lake and Lost Lake. The color imagery is from a Sept 7, 2020, pass of the ESA's Sentinel-2 satellite.

TinyMtn models are most affordable in the "Sandstone" and "White Natural Versatile Plastic" materials. This model is in "Sandstone," which is a glued gypsum material. When you receive the model it will be ready for display, though it may smell funny and need some time to air out. "Sandstone" models are much more brittle than "Versatile Plastic" models, but feel more like light stone. Do not soak it in water, though you can safely seal it with Polycrylic or a similar water-based clear spray sealant. Read more about this popular material here.

All TinyMtn models have hollow bottoms - this is to save on weight, and thus cost. Many larger models also have extra flanges on their undersides to increase rigidity and strength. To make the model more solid, you should feel free to carefully pour resin into the bottom cavity, or glue a properly-sized slab of wood or another material into it.

These models have been optimized for the above materials, and are not offered in other materials for strength or cost reasons. If you need one in another material, please tinymtnbiz@gmail.com and we'll do our best to fulfill your request.
