In the mid 23rd century to counter the Trojan-Ioan Empire Aries class destroyers the Hellenic League of Jupiter developed the aptly named Antares class. Antares, from the Greek “Rival of Aries”, was a multi-mission modular destroyer with a base design of 4 fusion engines, cryogenic fuel propellant storage, rotating habitation ring and a crew of over 125.
A assortment of weapons and mission packages were designed to be modular and interchangeable. With the Heavy Laser Antares the entire hangar bay in it's nose was replaced with a massive laser with a 20 Meter diameter mirror. Two Landing Pads/Docking Ports were added to the exterior. The 10 centimeter cannons were retained in all versions of the Antares. Radar and Lidar arrays were modified to better suit targeting for the main laser. The Twin rail gun turrets were replaced with additional Point Defense lasers.
