WCPR (ex Met Jubilee) coach

Built originally for the Metropolitan Railway at the time of Queen Victoria's silver jubilee, to replace rigid 8 wheel coaches , which had been proving troublesome on the Circle line. Originally built with a short 14ft wheelbase, when additional coaches were built for the 'mainline', this had to be increased to improve ride quality.
They were run in close coupled sets.
Eventually these short coaches were replaced with longer bogie coaches, and many were sold to other railways.
The WCPR bought seven cosches, six were ex mainline and one was ex Circle line(short wheelbase)
Originally formed into 2 sets of 3 with one extra, subsequently run as 3 sets of 2.
To enable guard to get from coach to coach, small doors(5ft by 18in) were created in ends, either on left or right, so coaches could only be run with a matching pair. Running boards at sides were removed and steps fitted for doors at ends plus guards compartment. The other doors were locked and handles removed. Internal seating was extensively altered. No two coaches were alike. Brake coach no 10 only had space of 3 compartments for passenger use, where as the other brake coaches had space of 4 compartments used.
Short buffers were fitted to inside end on one coach, and blanking plate on other. Other buffers believed to be long, except coach 7 which had short buffers both ends.
The body of coach no 7 survived, and has now been restored to former Metropolitan Railway condition. Surviving WCPR fittings have also been preserved separately.
