Product Description

My work focuses on modular components for structure and systems. I have been doing modular projects while studying Architecture at California College of the Arts and for a year after graduating. After making several types of joints, the goal for this one is to have one repeating module that makes as a system. This floating point system is for building structural trusses both simple and complex. A space frame joint, made from the one module and off-the-shelf hardware. It has eight ball joints that make an octahedron for finding compound angles for curved/doubled curved surface stuctures with a rigid frame. This joint does all of the hard work so assembly is fast and easy!! In short: design a truss system. make the joints. cut your rods. screw it all together by hand. Still in progress... I have designed and built a successful version with sheet metal. It consists of many parts and requires a big water-jet cutter or super strong laser-cutter, none of which I have access to right now. The good news is that it works! It needs refining, but has a full range of angles and it is good at making rigid structures. The sheet metal version really works and I am so excited to keep prototyping and testing. The second iteration (with a 3D printed module) needs more production and testing, though I need a 3D printer. With the chance to make further iterations on a high resolution Form 1 printer, I can simplify the design (less parts!) and build more structures to see what it is really capable of! It has potential to be a compact and universal product with many applications.
