Product Description
This is an accurate HO scale model of the Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington Railroad double-ended snow plow; better known as its nick name the "Hoot, Toot & Whistle" Railroad.  This one of a kind wooden constructed snow plow was originally built and abandoned by a narrow gauge logging railroad. The parts of the plow would be acquired by the HT&W soon after the double plows allowed the car to be used in either direction without the need to turn the car on the mountain road.  Once at the top of the line the locomotive only need to run around the plow to start its journey back down the line.

After a flood washed most of the railroad away the line was rebuild as a standard gauge railroad. The plow was modified to fit the new gauge and stayed with the railroad till its end in the 1970s. The plow would be saved from scrap by the Valley Railroad of Connecticut.  Here it was on display for many years receiving many restorations throughout the years. In 2012-2013 the plow would receive a major restoration to bring the plow back to service just in time to help clear the line following the 2013 blizzard.

The plow remains active today on the Valley and this is what the model was based on, its 2020 appearance. The HO scale model consists of one solid body piece, roof/cupola, wedge plows and an inner track grader.  The later are located inside the body under the roof and will need to be cut off and installed later. Some sanding may be needed for best placement. While the side wedge plows can be placed in the open position it would be best to glue them on in the "closed" position to avoid issues with close clearances.

The car should run on older style arch bar trucks and attached by standard 2-56 screws (not included). Please be careful when tightening screws as to not break the molded mounts. Additionally the model is designed to have kadee couplers installed. These can be placed over the included molded ring on the coupler pockets and ether glued in place themselves or by gluing a thin strip of styrene under the box to hold them in place. The roof is detachable to allow users to detail the interior or add appropriate weights. The roof can be glued in place if desired.

Originally on the HT&W the car was painted red with white lining around the edges. It would carry the railroads name “HT&W” as well as its number 100. On the Valley the car is currently painted in a safety orange with silver lining and silver paint on the wings and plow faces. See attached reference photos.  Please feel free to paint the plow to match your own home railroad. I’d love to see photos of the model in different colors.
I hope you enjoy this model and if there are any comments or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Please note pricing is based on material costs as the finer detail is required for the model.
