Product Description

This is an AT product targeted at people suffering from paralysis or are physical disadvantages. This means they either don't have control over their muscles, or motor functions, or they can not control them smoothly enough to use them.  I personally don’t know anyone suffering from such problems or experiencing such cases. I think it would have helped me to know someone who would have been able to tell me about their challenges with paralysis. These people are disadvantaged of using some technologies which need you to physically interact with them, for example a mouse or a keyboard. These people also have trouble with eating, playing (Sports and physical activities) as well as not necessarily being able to care for themselves, like going to bed or brushing teeth (These are kind of hard if you cannot control all your muscles), even drinking might be a challenge for these people. Paralysis is a widespread problem and making assistive technology for them would help thousands of people, as quoted from research, “5,596,000 people reported they were living with some form of paralysis”. I have designed a straw to help overcome some of these problems. This AT straw has a lip block, to prevent it from accidentally being swallowed, a weight for the straw to stay in place in a cup without the user having to hold it, and a long shaft to make the straw usable in almost every circumstance and elevate the mouth piece to head level. This straw is thick enough to be used for drinking liquid food.
