Product Description
The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Maesron Alliance was one of the preeminent empires of the Omega Octant, at one point the largest empire before civil war, economic collapse, and foreign invasion reduced their territory to a small enclave. Maesron ships are armed with wide-angle phasers, tachyon guns, and tachyon missiles.
When the Maesron "New Alliance," led by the humanoid Tazol and bat-like Wallimi, began to re-build in the wake of the Civil War and Collapse, they found that they were no longer able to bounce back easily from the loss of a battle fleet, as their remaining industrial base could no longer support the quick building of replacement ships. As part of their various efforts to allay this problem (which included using their self-imposed neutrality to shield their reconstruction efforts during the Superpower Wars), the Maesrons moved towards deploying larger numbers of tachyon missiles in combat, either to break up an enemy formation or to cover a retreat.
To that end, the Bombardment Cruiser became the first Maesron "missile cruiser" of its type to enter service. It replaced the tachyon guns and type-A tachyon missile racks of the heavy cruiser with a set of six type-B racks (which each held five missiles instead of the A-rack's three), replaced some of its auxiliary power reactors with dedicated cargo space (to keep more missiles in storage), and had double seeking weapons control installed (to support more missiles in flight). This made the Bombardment Cruiser a relatively poor duelist, but a useful variant when deployed in support of Maesron squadron or fleet actions.
The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
