My son needed a tablet stand, and since he was only three years old it had to be strong & stable. I don't like arbitrary designs, so I turned to geometry to find a suitable shape, and lo and behold the tetrahedron!
The tetrahedron is the first platonic solid! It's found right throughout organic chemistry - meaning you have on the order of 10^26 tetrahedrons in your body right now! It's also the basis for the D4, which everyone knows is the worst type of die to step on, which is the same reason the police use a tetrahedral arrangement of spikes to disable tyres. It has crimefighting powers!
If that weren't enough, to reinforce the six lines in this remarkable shape I put new lines running from the midpoint of each line to the midpoint of the opposite line, and what did I find but three mutually perpendicular lines intersecting in the middle! What a fascinating and educational property! Don't you wish you had one right now to examine for yourself?
On a practical note I can report that my son has been using the same stand for nearly a year and it has weathered all manner of misadventure. It's easy for even little fingers to pick up and move, and it's stable enough to hold quite large tablets in both portrait and landscape orientations.
The shelf is 105mm wide and 12mm deep, it should hold just about any tablet. If you need a different size just let me know and I can customise the design to suit.
