3125 Scale Vari Wing Cruiser MGL

The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants.  The Vari Combine is comprised of an arachnid species resembling a two-meter-long version of a common Terran garden spider. The Vari subsist on a completely liquid diet, almost exclusively made up of the blood of various forms of animal and insect life, and always drawn from a living subject. Indeed, the Vari consider the blood of the mammalian Maesron member species to be a delicacy, leading to a series of “blood raids” which almost in themselves led to the onset of the First Great War.  The Vari were divided into 20-odd cells, each with a Vizu (queen). Each cell is rife with Byzantine intrigue, as a host of rival families seek to overthrow the Vizu and take her place. For most of Vari history, most cells were independent of one another, and civil wars between cells were rare. Only after the Andromedan and Souldra invasions were over did one cell, the Vriss (close to Drex space) rise to unite all Vari under their rule. Vari ships are armed with particle phasers, particle beams, and particle probes; they later developed the particle phaser stabilizer and the plasma-like particle splitter torpedo.

While the Vari had gained the ability to build cruisers capable of fighting at Warp 3.14 during the last decade of the Superpower Wars, it would not be until the midst of the subsequent Second Great War before they fully came to terms with this technology to the point of being able to build a range of new “line” warships, such as the Wing Cruiser so named due to its double-sized wings relative to those of the light cruiser, the ship it was designed from the keel up to replace. The standard version was armed with five particle phaser-1s, four particle phaser-3s, four particle splitter torpedoes, a pair of particle probes, and a single particle beam. With significantly greater generated power than the light cruiser, the ship was able to make effective use of its quartet of particle splitter torpedoes, either for short-range attacks on enemy starships or for medium- to long-range sweeps against enemy fighters or tachyon missiles. It was not a “true” war cruiser as those would not appear in the Omega Octant until two years after the Wing Cruiser first entered service. Still it was built in such numbers and with so many variants (to include one armed with more particle beams), that it almost might as well have been. 

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
