G scale Propane Tank kit Size 1.00

3D printed in white nylon plastic with a matte finish and slight grainy feel.
Product Description
This is a G scale (1:29) kit for a common propane tank.  Tanks like this are common for residential and commerical use. The railroads also located tanks like this along the trackside near mainline junctions and crossovers in areas which experience snow or ice storms.  The propane was used as fuel for their track switch heaters. This kit represents tanks which are approximately 38" in diameter.  The prototype tanks often use this diameter, but in many different lengths to attain various capacities. Tanks of 500 gallon capacity have a main body length of approximately 8 feet long, whereas tanks of 1000 gallon capacity are almost double that. This kit is unique in that it uses a short length of 1" schedule 40 ABS pipe (not included) for the main tank body. This pipe is available at most hardware stores and all of the large DIY stores such as Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes. This was done to dramaitically decrease the final cost of this kit to you. This kit includes:
  • 2 hemi-spherical ends
  • 1 top cover
  • 2 legs
Assembling this kit is very easy and is a good beginner level project.
  1. acquire a short length of 1" schedule 40 pipe, cut to desired length, and file the ends smooth and square. You can do a test fit with the ends to check for fit and gaps.
  2. cut the hemi-spherical end pieces from the sprues and file smooth the attachment points.
  3. cut the 2 legs from the sprues and file smooth the sprue attachment point.
  4. cut the top cover from the sprue. Be sure to leave a length of the attached 1/16" sprue to help locate and glue this piece into position.
  5. into the main body (pipe) drill a 1/16" hole to locate the top cover.
  6. exactly opposite the first hole (step #5), drill a 1/16" hole along the bottom of the tank to act as a vent/drain in future.
  7. glue the 2 ends onto the main body.
  8. locate and glue the top cover into the first 1/16" hole.
  9. locate and glue the 2 lower legs into position along the bottom of the main body.
