Product Description

This is the heater barrel for a plastic filament extruder. Designed to take a temperature sensor and up to 2 x standard 3D printing hot end heaters.

The funnel top is intended for use with a PET drinking bottle screw thread, it's also provided with a fused water cooling attachement to increase the hot and cold differentials to prevent sticking of pellets before they are caught by the auger.

See STROODSNOUT augerV2 and STROODSNOUT flange2 for the two other parts required.

 

Lettering serves to increase heat dissipation area at the hopper end but the hot end itself should be insulated thermally.

Tho output nozzle has a design size orifice of 2.85mm diameter and it's possible to extrude as is after cleaning with a drill bit but the intent is to tap to M6 an inside thread in the covering cowl with an "End tap". A standard nozzle can then be screwed in, preferably with fine metal gauze filter and some teflon thread seal tape.

 

The relatively short length and volume are intended to reduce motor loading and make stepper motor drive practical. Keep an eye out, I'll be designing a coupler for stepper motor drive option in the near future to go with the STROODSNOUT auger. Otherwise it can be driven with a standard Lithium ion screwdriver socket! For stepper motor drive, 200 step per revolution motors are recommended.
