Omni Scale Probr Gunboat Flotilla MGL

The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants.  The Probr are a species of salamander-like amphibians that were the product of a genetic engineering experiment by another species known only as THEM. The Probr revolted, killing all of THEM. The Probr Revolution stayed out of the First Great War, but joined the fray during the Maesron Collapse to become one of the Four Superpowers. Probr ships are built from a combination of one of more of the “basic hulls" and various wings are added on. The ships are armed with quantum phasers, plasma-like HEAT torpedoes, and target accentuators.

The Probr gunboat was somewhat large, as compared to other volatile warp gunboats. Its shields were not particularly strong, but the ship was designed, or at least intended, to fight at medium range. It was armed with two quantum phaser-1s, a single quantum phaser-2, a pair of quantum phaser-3s, and no less than four high-energy acceptance torpedo launchers (in two pairs of two, with each pair set to the same side-facing launching arcs as on most larger Probr warships). However, it could launch no more than two HEAT torpedoes in a given turn, nor were the Probr able to mount a target accentuator on a unit as small as a gunboat. Gunboats are deployed in flotillas of four, often with a leader but no scout. This tree of gunboats contains four standard, one leader, one scout, and two phaser gunboats.

The Probr gunboat leader had 100% more battery and auxiliary power reactor space than the standard Probr gunboat, although its shielding was no stronger. As with other Probr gunboats, it cannot drop its “wings.” As with other Omega Octant empires, the Probr did not develop a gunboat scout until about a decade after their first gunboats entered service. Replacing two of the high-energy acceptance torpedoes with special sensors, it was able to benefit from the use of its two remaining HEATs to cover a retreat, despite the risk of blinding its own sensors while doing so. Regardless, it was never a universally deployed variant. 

A relatively straightforward conversion, the Probr phaser gunboat replaced two of the high-energy acceptance torpedoes with an additional quantum phaser-2. It was considered a questionable design choice, driven more by the need to reduce the power demands of the HEAT torpedoes. As the gunboat leader had more power systems available to support its own HEAT launches, no “phaser gunboat leader” was ever built. Nonetheless, it was not uncommon to see two of these boats in a given Probr flotilla.

This tree of gunboats is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
