Rapture

The symbolism of this sculpture has been chosen very carefully.  Simply by virtue of its shadows, it attempts to tell a story.  It represents the fundamental aspects of human existence; we were all born of a woman and we all have a skull in our heads, that will at some point become a relic.  The inevitability and permanence of death is something that all people must reckon with and it can be kind of depressing.  This sculpture is meant to be an antidote to that form of depression: life is temporary but it is not meaningless.  The connections we make with other living creatures somehow enrich the universe.  The love we have for each other is remembered by the world and enhances it.  Much in the same way as a mushroom turns decay into beauty, we can by our thoughts and feelings weave the fabric of time.
