Faux Taxidermy is a term used for a replica (faux) of mounted animal head (taxidermy), originating in the art of taxidermy during the Victorian era, when mounted animals became a popular part of interior design and decor.
In this modern day, the 3d print technology makes it possible to reproduce a 3d sculpture of an animal head that doesn't require the killing of the real animal, but still brings the charm and aesthetic of having an animal head on your wall as a "trophy".
My design inspiration comes from the tiger stripes: the contrast between light fur and dark lines, forming a distinct pattern that's so unique and what makes the characteristics of a tiger. Stealth, while at the same time, strong. I wanted to translate the interweaving relationship between the light and dark, into hollow and solid parts in 3d space. The result is a stylized tiger head with continuous lines holding everything together.
The design is versatile to be applied to other animals as well. So, expect to see more animal head designs in the future!
