Product Description

Faux Taxidermy is a term used for a replica (faux) of mounted animal head (taxidermy), originating in the art of taxidermy during the Victorian era, when mounted animals became a popular part of interior design and decor.

In this modern day, the 3d printer technology makes it possible to reproduce a more stylized 3d sculpture of an animal head that doesn't require the killing of the real animal, but still brings the charm and aesthetic of having an animal head on your wall as a "trophy".

My design inspiration comes mainly from the tiger stripes: the contrast between the light and the dark lines, forming a distinct pattern that's so unique and what makes the characteristics of a tiger. Stealth, while at the same time, strong. I decided to translate the interweaving relationship between the light and dark, into hollownes and solidity in the 3d space. After an overlay of the facial anatomy of the real tiger head with some geometrical shapes as secondary guide, the result is a stylized version of the tiger head with continuous lines holding everything together.

In the end, the design is versatile enough to be applied to other animals as well. So, expect to see more animal head designs in the future!
