Product Description
This set is available in either 1:700 or 1:600 scale and includes THREE variants of the Ford 5-AT  Trimotor:
  • "Booted and Suited" with full wheel spats and outer engine cowlings.
  • Stripped Down - with no spats or cowlings, just a pair of rudimentary mudguards.
  • Passenger Float Plane - luxuriously equipped.

Please note that the individual aircraft are supplied "caged" together to avoid loss and damage  - simply cut the cage away to realease the models  using small sidecutter pliers or snips. Once the cage is removed there are NO sprues to cut away and clean up.

In 1/700th scales theses models have a wingspan of just 33.8mm. In 1:600 scale it is 39.4mm.

First flown in 1926 , 199 Ford Trimotors were built and 18 are still flying in the 21st Century!Admiral William A. Moffet, head of the US  Navy's  Bureau of Aeronautics  had one of these at his disposal and was regularly to be seen flying in to Lakehurst to keep abreast of developments on the USS Akron. He was a major exponent of the military airship but tragicaly lost his life when Akron (then the largest dirigible in the world) went down in a storm off the coast of New Jersey on April 4, 1933.Charles Linburgh flew a Trimotor and TWA and many smaller airlines used them as a mainstay of their fleets.Australia, Canada, Colombia, Spain and the United Kindom used military variants, as well as the United States.
