Product Description

My sumbission for the #iDTech3DContest is "The iD Axe" -- inspired by an axe made out of emeralds in Minecraft.

How did you come up with this?

I wanted to be unique; ultimately I knew that most people would end up submitting a sword or pickaxe, but I decided to use my texturing skills to create an axe in 512x512 resolution, then proceed to color change it to be emerald-green (even more unique!). As I did so, I realized that the iD Tech logo was the same color, so I decided to integrate that into my texture.

How did you turn the texture into a model?

This took a while, but I managed to import the texture into the Blender software and extrude it to be 3D item, then sealed the sides by texturing them with thier corresponding faces. Finally, I extruded the iD Tech logo as well as the "holder" for the blade of the axe. I had a bit of trouble exporting as this was my first time with Shapeways, but I managed to export it as a .x3d file and the render turned out great with help of some of the friendly forumgoers.

Why would someone want to print this?

There are a few reasons:

1. It could be great for some iD Tech staff or students who would want to take it as a souvenir! It incorporates the iD logo, and I know there are many classes at iD Tech based on Minecraft.

2. It's unique! Not every day do you find an emerald item from Minecraft 3D printed, its elegance is very appealing and I believe many people would like to take it home with them.

3. It's not bulky! Most 3D printed Minecraft items are textured 16x16 pixels, making them hard and uncomfortable to hold. With these 512x512 textures, you can easily hold it, and it has a better resolution for more elegant curves.

Awesome! What about you?

Hi! My name is Jamsheed Mistri, and I'm a 9th grader registering for the #iDTech3DContest as a #3DHighSchool student! Good luck to all participants!
