SOS here stands for "Save Our Seas". I intend this piece to raise funds to help heal life on Earth, beginning with the oceans where it all started. It depicts a dolphin leaping over the rising sun. The silouhetted (absent) dolphin and sea horizon remind us to "keep the oceans in the picture".
This model still wants tweaking IMO, so I mark it "Coming Soon". It is very nice as is, so feel free to purchase it to encourage the project.
About the Deep Inner Meaning:
Some years ago India declared Dolphins to be "non-human persons, suggesting happily to me that the spirit of Ghandi is still at work civilizing the West.
In my understanding, the decimation of ocean life by acidification, plastic waste, and Fukushima radiation constitutes mass murder. I am sure that dolphins, and whales will prove to be only the most obvious among many more non-human intelligent, self-aware creatures of the Earth that we now fail to recognize. These are "alien Earthlings" perhaps, but their right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness must necessarily be the equal of our own in the eyes of our common Creator. I believe future generations will hold that Truth to be self-evident too, as we now do that that slavery and genocide are abominations.
We of the Western nations are not legitimately owners of this Earth; we are properly its stewards, alongside all humans, and we have pillaged that trust. Our recent forebears succumbed to the manipulations of John D. Rockefeller and Standard Oil and standardized the energy infrastructure of the economies of the industrializing world on petroleum combustion. It has lately surfaced that oil companies like Exxon determined that their products were causing climate change by the earliy seventies. They buried that information in order to secure a few years more profit from peddling their poison. This generation faces the fallout of that folly.
The ascendant Western industrial powers have looted and ravaged the earth since the late 19th century, guided by the misguided principles that "Man is the measure of all things", "all values are subsets of monetary values", and "ownership confers an absolute right of control".
- Consciousness is the measure of all things and Life is consciousness;
- Monetary values, like any monotone value system in which 'more is better', are an unnatural and poisonous subset of biological values, in which balance is the primary meta-value, and
- We must transition from ownership to stewardship, under which concept possession confers the right of control which is legitimate only when counterbalanced by an obligation to husband the resource and the waste from its use for "the highest good of all concerned", both human and non-human, present and future, guided in part by the principle that all rights worth having are sustained by duties worth performing well.
All rights are sustained by duties worth performing well. Let's help the upcoming generation get the message, follow Indias lead, and create cultures that balance all rights with duties upon which they depend, most particularly the responsibility of stewardship of life on Earth.
And let us do all that it takes to heal life on Earth, mortally wounded by the economic ecological rampage of recent generations of the West. I say "do all it takes" advisedly, meaning "do what we can" is not good enough. We are alive. We owe Life for the flesh. We will pay up or perish. We will create ecologically sustainable economies focused on restoring the Earth, or accept our Darwin Award for making the greatest contribution to the evolution of Life on Earth with our early demise, which alas seems poised to take most life on Earth down with us. We are human, we adapt consciously. Let us do so with a will. Heal the Earth.
