Product Description

During the 1980's and early 1990's the Canadian National Railway rebuilt over 200 aging GP7 and GP9 diesel locomotives. The rebuild Geeps where designated as GP9rm locomotives, which got anew low short hood, new cabs, new electricals, 16-645C engines, and other optimizations. Those numbered in the 4000 range were rebuild as road switchers with the controls rotated to face the short hood, while those in the 7000 series were yard switchers, regularily operated with a slug and equipped with remote control systems.

This cab represents a GP9rm quite faithfully and is more or less built to match the 4000 series of road switchers. Afte looking through 5 dozen photos of these engines, it became clear that there are a few differences on alomost every locomotive. The configuration of the louvers on the cabinets but also the dimension and location of the cabinets can vary. This particular cab has no actual prototype.

Compatibility: NONE

The measures were take from a Proto2000 GP18 shell. This is a BETA or testing version. There will be improvement in the future.

Current issues and errors: Mot of the former problems with the cab have been solved. It prints superb in black high definition acrylate with very fine detail. Impressive. The fitting is not ideal however. I designed it for a Proto2000 GP18 shell and the overall dimensions match very well. However the cutout at the rear of the cab could be about a quarter of a millimeter narrower on each side. Also the cutout at both sides of the hood are too short. I needed to file away about one millimeter in front of both battery boxes. And the front hood doesn't quite touch the front platform surface (there is a gap of about half a millimeter). Not good = not for sale.

Future Plans

This will become a conversion kit for the Proto2000 GP 18 shells. I already made a well fitting fuel tank and have the detail parts mostly ready. This will take a while.
