Product Description
Pennsylvania Railroad F22 flat car in S scale Also known as a "Gun flat", these cars we designed to carry large naval guns from the foundry to the shipyards in Philadelphia. Often traveling in pairs, these cars carried extremely large and heavy loads.

This model is the frame for one car. In addition to a wood deck, trucks, and couplers, you will need to add brake equipment, including a vertical shaft and brake wheel to complete the car. The coupler box and covers are drop-in compatible with Sergent (http://www.sergentengineering.com) and Kadee #802 S scale couplers. Also, there is a mounting bracket for Carmer cut lever on each end. Etched brass Carmer levers were once available from Standard Railway Castings Co. (http://srcc.redmansefarm.com), current availability is unknown.

This model includes the "bridge" which mounts to a boss in the center of the car, allowing the load to pivot on curved track. The boss is designed for a deck that is .04" thick. Evergreen strip styrene can be used or Northeastern Scale Lumber makes .04" strips is bass wood. The prototype deck boards were 6" wide.

The bridge does rotate, and so you can model a train with a load supported across two cars.

Also available is a version without the bridge and mounting boss so that a PRR F23 and the plain variation of the F22 can be modeled.
