Product Description
Sucrose is a combination of one glucose and one fructose unit joined together,
commonly named sugar.
Sugar has been consumed worldwide for centuries, once considered a luxury that only
the rich could afford. Europe was supplied it’s sugar by Venice, Arabs distributed
sugar throughout Sicily and Spain. Spain began producing sugar in 1506 in the West
Indies and in 1523 in Cuba. Portugal began producing sugar in 1532 in Brazil. There
is debate as to whether India or China first discovered how to make sugar.
By the 19th
century the demand became overwhelming, and sugar became an affordable
commodity.
