Product Description
After the invasion, Earth's surviving nations turned to any plan they could come up with to quickly rebuild their spacegoing navies in order to defend the planet. While some preferred larger, modular ships like the Aldebaran, others preferred cheaper, smaller vessels that could be mass produced. Extensive use of automation was made to reduce crew size and allow the ships to cram in the maximum firepower possible.
The Marcone-class destroyer (named for John Marcone, who financed the class' design along with theGeary-class) is one of these. Three twin-barrel particle-beam turrets give her a heavy punch, supplemented by four lighter turrets mounted around the rear hull and four pulse-laser point-defense nodes on the superstructure. In the nose , the designers actually managed to shoehorn in a light Nova Cannon. A full dozen heavy missiles are also carried on external ordinance racks, stored in single-shot armored cannisters. A powerful electronic-warfare suite and extensive sensor systems make these ships the eyes and ears of light squadrons, often serving as flagships to a wolfpack of Gearys.
This version of the model has been shrunk in response to a request for a slightly smaller version, it comes to a 63mm length.
