Rick Sternbach's USS Voyager concept, the ship was quite different from the Intrepid class we all know and love: he wanted a vessel different from the usual Starfleet design aesthetics, much like the USS Defiant did in Deep Space Nine. The ship was unofficially named the USS Reinhardt. This is the second iteration of the design: Sternbach wanted a more 3-dimensional looking ship, so he added energy-absorption panels on fins-shaped extensions of the hull.
The hull and nacelles are the same as the USS Palomino for all the four variants.
