The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Maesron Alliance was one of the preeminent empires of the Omega Octant, at one point the largest empire before civil war, economic collapse, and foreign invasion reduced their territory to a small enclave. Maesron ships are armed with wide-angle phasers, tachyon guns, and tachyon missiles.
A variant of the Maesron frigate, the early gunboat tender was the first ship of its type to exist in the Omega Octant. As such, it helped the New Alliance slowly come to terms with the potential of “volatile warp” Interceptor and gunboat technology -- albeit more through its failures than its limited successes. The Maesrons initially believed that no ship could actually maintain gunboats, and that there would be ample opportunity for a given tender to stay out of direct combat while its flock went to work. They soon found that the tenders were themselves liable to be caught in direct combat (which was unfortunate for this poorly armed hull), while the lack of repair facilities made the gunboats themselves incapable of conducting more than one mission per sortie. Eventually, the Maesron engineers developed ways to maintain gunboats on mech-links; once a cruiser-sized gunboat tender was designed to take advantage of this innovation, this ship (which never received a repair refit) faded into history.
This ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
