Mars is the fourth planet from the sun in our Solar system, and is the second smallest after Mercury. Mars is named after the Roman god of war and is often referred to as the “Red Planet” because of the iron oxide on its surface. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere and briny flowing salt water. Mars has long been the subject of our curiosity and an object of desire regarding possible colonization. The German Aerospace Center discovered that earth lichens can survive under simulated Mars conditions, making successful colonization more likely.
Mars also bears the distinction of being the only planet in our Solar system that is entirely populated by robots.
This pendant pays tribute to this small red planet and our fascination regarding it.
