Product Description

Ancient arborigine art, the headshrinking of human heads comes from jivaroan tribes inhabiting the northwest of the Amazon forest. At first a practice of religious significance, where the shrunken head served to harness and enslave the deceased ennemy's soul, it quickly became an exotic and sensational ''souvenir'' for tourists and collectors.

First exchanged for guns with the native jivaroans, the increasing trade brought counterfeit copies to the market, made from monkey or sloth heads in Columbia and Panama. The golden age of trade for the shrunken head came in the 1930s, when they were been sold for 25 dollars (about 350 us dollars today), and ended abruptly by 1940, year of the illegalisation of their import into the United States.

Needless to say, our shrunken head pendants hold no soul nor dark curse within it, neither are they illegal. However, it serves admirably as a way to intrigue and fascinate, and maybe even initiate, friends and family to the strange trends of the last centuries.

Strong and flexible plastic have been offered to allow custom painting of the model, as well as a more accessible price for the weirdies and onlookers of cabinets of curiosities.
