Bulleid kitchen/buffet car(D2668)
(modified Tavern Car)
Initial planning for new restaurant coaches started in 1946. A new design which finally appeared n 1949 after nationalisation.
Controversially designed to look like a traditional English pub, inside and outside, with fake brickwork and beams painted on.
Initially well received on Southern Region, on introduction to Eastern Region they received a lot of criticism, which then spread to the Southern Region, so the decision was taken to rebuild them to more traditional designs. In this form they continued in service into the 60s.
Each set of 2 coaches was made up of a tavern car and an open composite restaurant car. After rebuilding they became a kitchen/buffet coach and composite saloon coach.
Buffers were only on the outer ends of the pairs of coaches.
Requires chassis and finishing
