Product Description

Tennessee, often referred to as "Tennessee I" to differentiate her from Buchanan's later ship, was built at Memphis alongside Arkansas and a third sister ship. When the Union won the Battle of Memphis, Arkansas was towed downriver and finished to a significantly different plan. Tennessee, being built to the original Arkansas class plan, could not be evacuated quickly enough, and so was burned to prevent capture. While her armament scheme was similar to that of Arkansas, her only other major similarity was a near vertical casemate with large gunports. Otherwise, she had twin pivot mounted exposed guns fore and aft, a differently shaped casemate, and a more visible ram just at the waterline. There is no record of her painting scheme. Recommended in BSF.
