Auto-Train (ATC) Caboose

This is a model of a typical Auto-Train Corp caboose. During the later years of the original Auto-Train operations, new regulations mandated the railroad relocate their auto carriers to the end of the passenger sections and a caboose take station at the rear of the train. These cabooses started their lives as 40' PS1 boxcars. Originally belonging to FEC, the FEC railroad converted the boxcars into a style of bay window caboose. Unlike similar boxcar to caboose conversions, the FEC did not chop down the height of the cars giving them a higher profile than seen of a typical caboose. When Auto-Train purchased them from FEC, the bay windows were removed and a wide-vision cupola was added to the top. The result is a caboose that is just a little...different..
