True proportioned 427 Roadster. It may seem stretched for those used to the old distorted Cobra bodies of the past. But this roadster's proportions are accurate to within 1/100th of an inch. Built from reference photos, blueprints, and details captured with 123D Catch software app. It's scale is approximately 1/53 scale, which was derived at based on standard "HO" tire diameters and rear axle widths. Designed to fit the original HWP SL-1 Slot Car Chassis, no longer available on Shapeways.
Note: This version will NOT fit the new SL2-Mk4 or the BW1 chassis.
The body comes with an extra front end for the SL1 chassis, 2 roll bars, and a windscreen template. The printed but fragile windscreen frame is intended to be used a 3-dimensional template for making your own from bent wire around a clear styrene windshield. Ours was made by taking a piece thin clear styrene from a CD Jewel case, heated in near boiling water and wrapped around glass jar of the right diameter to match the printed template. Then simply mark off the windshield, cut and sand to shape, and file a channel around the edge to hold it into the bent wire frame.
For sanding and painting, we used several coats of Rustoleum Primer/Filler in a rattle can with progressively finer grit wet sand paper in between. Then color coat, stripes, and clear coat for a smooth shine.
