Dreadnoughts are the capital ships of the Star Fleet Universe. They are 50% bigger than heavy cruisers and are used as flagships of major fleets. Even the largest empires would rarely have ten of them in service at any given time.
This is the original Franz Joseph design of the Federation dreadnought, which had only four photon torpedoes (same as the heavy cruisers of the Constitution-class). In the Star Fleet Universe, we quickly moved to more powerful dreadnoughts with six heavy weapons, leaving the original Franz Joseph design as something of an anachronism. That spawned a theory that during "the Middle Years" everyone had dreadnoughts with the armament of cruisers, and upgraded these in the General War years to six heavy weapons. Thus, the original Franz Joseph dreadnought spawned the Improved Dreadnought, the Combat Dreadnought, the Heavy Dreadnought, and the Light Raiding Dreadnoughts of the Splendid Cat series. The honorable Franz Joseph, an engineer who granted us the original license only because a fellow engineer would be running it, started something we have yet to finish.
This is the official Franz Joseph design offered by ADB, Inc. under its contract with Franz Joseph Designs.
The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
