Product Description
54-foot 3D printed turntable bridge and gallows based on the Pacific Coast Railway turntable at Port San Luis. The turntable turned 180°. The original turntable was an A-frame but later replaced by a larger “gallows” style turntable as represented here. The bridge of this turntable was lengthened at least once, and two different lengths are offered in this Shop. This 3d printed bridge is designed for use with a 270° heavy-duty RC car servo controlled by a Pololu “Micro Maestro” programmable servo control board. (see parts list). The servo and control board can be powered by a typical USB-5VDC adapter, or by a step-down converter from your model railroad’s 12VDC power bus. Carefully cut the sprus holding the “Armstrong” handles to the bridge leaving a 1-2mm pins on the handles and file any residue smooth before cleaning parts. The pins on the handles fit in holes on opposite ends of the bridge stringers. For a full detailed construction article, see the May-June issue of N Scale Magazine. You can see a video of the turntable in use at: https://youtu.be/aRm5O6hN5xA KNOCK-DOWN KIT: Carefully cut the 1mm diameter sprus holding the gallows parts and the “Armstrong” handles to the bridge and file any residue smooth before cleaning parts. The pins on the handles fit in holes on opposite ends of the bridge stringers. Pins on the gallows sides fit in holes on top of the stringers; pins on cross-pieces fit in holes on the gallows sides.
GENERAL NOTE: These craftsman kits consisting of 3D printed resin plastic parts are NOT as strong or flexible as the “engineering” plastics many of you will be used to in railway models, nor even as strong as conventional injection molded styrene. HANDLE THE PARTS CAREFULLY TO AVOID BREAKAGE. Wash the parts in isopropyl alcohol aided by a soft brush. Very thin parts of the kit can be strengthened by applying very small droplets of CA adhesive with the tip of a pin or needle to the back of the thin area after the parts dry.
