The
Vickers F.B.9 was a development of the
Vickers F.B.5 with rounded wing-tips, a vee undercarriage, and extra room in the nose for the gunner's legs. The early models featured a rounded D-shaped nose, but later models extended the bottom fuselage further. Most F.B.9s went to training units, but the first had gone to France for operational testing in January and several others were shipped over in May-June 1916 where they served over the Battle of the Somme. By 21 July 1916, they had all been withdrawn, so their operational lifetime was brief.
Around 75 were delivered as trainers, a role they played into 1918.
This product comes in both 1:144 and 1:285/6mm/1:288 scales. The latter includes two aeroplanes, joined by disposable links. The smaller scale version uses propeller disks rather than blades.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
