Product Description
This is a reliable approach to solving the airballs on recent Stern Pinballs. Traditionally targets had a few degrees tilt forward, but now Stern have gone to a vertical mount which I believe contributes to the new problem of air balls.

So this bracket is the same thickness as the original on the machine with all the same holes BUT now the bracket is 2mm shorter which effectively moves the target up into the playfield area 2mm more keeping the ball below the target rivet. The bracket also has a 5 degree lean forward. In lifting the target and tilting forward represents targets of the 90's, it has heavy reduced all balls and makes a great difference.

Unfortunately I have no control over the cost of Shapeways parts / materials as these need to be a strong metal.

You will need 1 bracket per target, eg if you need to fix 2 targets for say Ghostbusters you will need to purchase 2 of these brackets.

So far people have acknowledged that these have worked well for games like:
- Ghostbusters ( 2 x targets either side of the ramp entry point)
- Munsters
- Avengers
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (4 x targets ) - see photo
- JAWS (3 x targets)

photo 1 - shows the difference from the side between the stern bracket and the new angled Swinks bracket on the left
photo 2 - shows the difference from above between the stern bracket and the new angled Swinks bracket on the right - the slot is moved 2mm closer to the corner which effectively raises the target
photo 3 - shows the 2 brackets to be swapped out in which the light board has to be loosened to remove one for swapping
photo 4 - shows the Stern bracket before swapping the base bracket
photo 5 - remove the bolts while keeping the parts of the target together and then assemble the new Swinks bracket like the original
photo 6 - this shows the ball next to the target rivet with Stern's base bracket
photo 7 - this shows the ball next to the target rivet with the new Swinks bracket
photo 8 - this shows the comparison between the 2 targets with the height difference - left is original and sitting lower and right higher due to the drop of 2mm in the slot on the swinks bracket.

Once finished both targets they will both sit higher.

Note: the brackets now on sale do not have the web in the corner as this was un-necessary in a casting.

Some customer feedback after installing these brackets taken from the Ghostbuster Issue Thread on Pinside pg79:
  • Yes, it stopped all the huge ball jumpbacks (like ones that would go over the flippers, etc) and the ball is nowhere near as wild hitting the targets. I removed the protector and it's working fine.
  • So installed my Swinks brackets the other day. And had plenty of shots ( bricks mostly :-)) to the stand ups. Not even a hop from the ball ! Trust in Swinks. Put those brackets in and get that ugly piece of plastic out ! Best "mod" you can buy.
  • me too, they are brilliant - taking that annoying plastic airball protector off makes the game flow so much better.
  • Swinks target base replacement stopped my airballs and i no longer use the airball protector . Much cleaner look too.
