This model gives the shape of the near-Earth asteroid 2008 EV5. The real asteroid is ~400 m across. Note the ridge around the object's equator, broken by a 150-m concavity. This model has been color-coded by surface geopotential, roughly equivalent to elevation on the Earth, and should be printed in full-color sandstone. Red denotes low-lying regions, blue high-lying regions.
EV5 is the target of the proposed Marco Polo R mission by ESA, which would go to the asteroid, pick up handfuls of material, and return the samples to Earth for analysis. EV5 is also potentially of interest as a target for future human missions.
