The wonderfully expansive universe of Minecraft is one that has inspired gamers to unleash their inner creativity and ingenuity in ways that most find difficult, if not impossible. Due to the unlimited possibilities in the incredible world of metric blocks and Swedish imagination, the benefactors of the virtual world may run into some sort of ‘gamers-block,’ much like that of writers or musicians.
Thanks to the challenge set forth by iD Tech, I was inspired to provide the fuel and desire for gamers so that they could reach the final stage of Minecraft: The End. The miniature sculpture that I have created does well to illustrate the Ender Dragon, the final ‘boss’ in Minecraft, as well as Steve, the character that the player embodies throughout their cubic experience. This is meant to focus the gamer on the end goal and to remind the player of the satisfaction that comes from overcoming hardships in order to find success.
Another crucial aspect to the design of my creation is the fact that both the Ender Dragon and Steve are not complete replicas of the virtual characters. This was completely intentional and done so to symbolically represent the creative and unique experience that each user has when playing Minecraft. Like anything in life, each person interprets his or her surroundings in different ways and, especially in Minecraft, molds and interacts with their own world to better suit their own preferences and style of living. In parallel with this notion, I decided to create both Steve and the Ender Dragon not based on any specific dimensions or even images of the two characters, but rather on my own recollection of both the player’s best friend, and the enemy.
In further tribute to Notch, the Swedish creator of Minecraft, and all European players of the game, I created the ‘trophy’ solely in metric units as well as in a completely cubic theme. Even the neck and tail of the formidable beast are simple cubes extruded at varying yet progressive angles to create the subtle illusion of a natural curve.
Often times, gamers, and average people, need a simple push or surge of inspiration to keep them going in life. Because of this, I feel that people would want to print this symbolic sculpture. I truly do hope that my piece of hardwork inspires not only the dedicated players of Minecraft, but also any person that has or will be overcoming difficulties in their lives in order to reach some far off goal or dream.
