Kaiju - Canopener

Product Description

A monster design of mine, a kaiju to be specific. It is following very much in line with the Pacific Rim universe of kaiju. Many of the PR kaiju have a weapon as a focus in their design, such as knifes and axes, but also elements of real world animals like gorillas, crabs, and lizards. Those elements together brought about some very cool and memorable kaiju and I wanted my design to reflect the same design principles. I incorporated aspects of a can opener (what better to open tin robots with) snakes, praying mantis, and various other creepy crawlies. I am a traditional sculptor but lately I have been doing more and more digital work. One thing I hate about digital sculpting is the disconnect and loss of tactility that comes along with making sculpture by hand. It is wonderful having Shapeways to be able to print out my design but even the highest quality prints have a lack of detail that I strive for in my work. If I was able to print out my models with a high resolution 3D print like a Form1 it could capture all the detail I put into my digital models and I would not have to re-sculpt the surface and details of my models before I mold and cast them.
