Scale: 1/350

Set includes 8 mounts (turrets) for reconstructed pre-war battleships (USS Pennsylvania, etc.), no barrels.

    Recommended for:
Following the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, surviving battleships were significantly altered to increase the power and effectiveness of the anti-aircraft battery.  Many of these ships were reconstructed with eight 5"/38 cal. Mk.32 Mounts during their 1943 or 1944 refits.

This set of eight mounts represents the e
ight Mk.32 mounts known to have been carried by the following ships after their reconstruction:
    • USS Nevada BB-36
    • USS Pennsylvania BB-38
    • USS Tennesee BB-43
    • USS California BB-44
    • USS Maryland BB-46
    • USS West Virginia BB-48

    • accurate dimensions scaled from official US Navy blueprints and confirmed by photos and measurements taken from actual Twin Mounts
    • detailed armored viewfinder and rangefinder hoods
    • separate trunnion with slots for brass barrels or kit barrels (barrels not included) to allow the modeler to choose any realistic elevation from +85 degrees to -15 degrees, just like the real mount
    • crew access hatches and maintenance hatches with hinge and bolt-head details
    • bolt-heads in accurate locations

Among naval historians, the US Navy 5"/38 caliber gun is considered the best intermediate-caliber, dual purpose naval gun of World War II.  Lighter than the earlier, heavier version designed for fast battleships, the "Mark 32" version of the twin mount was designed specifically for aircraft carriers and cruisers and other ships where weight was an important consideration such as USS Pennsylvania BB-38.
