Product Description

This Canadian National Railways Hart Convertible gondola includes all major parts except trucks and couplers. The buyer furnishes brass wire, screws, paint, adhesive, and decals.

These cars were built between 1928 and 1955 by three builders- Canadian Car & Foundry, National Steel Car, and Eastern Car Company- and were assigned CNR road numbers in the 98105-99749 range. In 1969, CN carried out a massive renumbering and these cars ended up in the 102000-105304 range.

Eleven cars were sent to CNR's 42" gauge Newfoundland operation, where they were placed on narrow gauge trucks and served until 1983.

The Grand Trunk Western, a CNR family road, also had 100 of these cars, numbered 94000-94099. They were delivered in 1927. Refer to Mainline Modeller magazine, March 1989, for an article on the GTW cars.

For detailed roster information on these and other Canadian freight cars, please refer to Ian Cranstone's fine web site: http://www.nakina.net/cn/cn.html

The car can be built with or without ends installed in either of the two positions found on the prototype, and with the floor doors opened to reveal the hopper bottom, or closed to create a flat floor. These versatile and long- lived cars are suitable for any time from the late 1920s to late 1980s.

Detail Photos of the prototype can be seen here: http://public.fotki.com/sbhunterca/cnr-steel-frame-har/

The kit is available in both FUD.
